Board Books, Lift Flaps, Pop-Ups and More

Disclosure: I was sent these books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Yesterday I did a mega review of picture books!! There is one there for everyone, so be sure to check it out. Today I am going to share new board books, pop-ups, lift flaps and more!! These are some fun books, so be sure to check them all out. We will start with a simple board book for Halloween. It is Peep and Egg: I'm Not Trick-or-Treating  by Laura Gehl and pictures by Joyce Wan.

In this book chicks Peep and Egg are talking about trick-or-treating. Peep is all set to go, but Egg is refusing to go. He is too scared. Peep tries to talk him into it but he finds something to be scared of at each suggestion that is until he realizes that he will be all alone while Peep is gone.

It is a very cute book that reminds us that some kids are scared of Halloween (like Hazel) and the scary costumes, dark night and more. Of course sometimes to overcome a fear you just have to jump in and face it.

Our next book is a fun reminder of how important the family is. The book is Better Together: A Book of Family by Barbara Joosse and Anneke Lisberg and illustrated by Jared Andrew Schorr. This book has different animals in various situations that makes them look lonely or in danger but when you open the flap you see the entire family and learn the proper name for a group of that type of animal.

The animals include zebras, bats, crows, meerkats, prairie dogs, rat pups, and a child. At the end of the book there is information about the different animals as well. It is a very cute and gives a bit of information about the animals.

In our next book Charlie is back. This time it is Charlie Builds by Bob Bianchini. Charlie builds various things like a sand castle, bridge, skyscraper (out of blocks), fire station, mountain of leaves, igloo, dog house, garage, and a fort.

What does your child like to build? What does he/she build with? This book will encourage all sorts of building.

Speaking of building, our next book is great for all those kids who love watching the construction trucks!! It is Buildablock by Christopher Franceschelli and illustrated by Peskimo. This fun book is narrated by the construction trucks. They have partial pages that introduce the job and then show the specific truck that does that job.

In the page above you can turn the partial page and see the bulldozer behind it. This book gives the proper names to the trucks that most kids love!!
Are you teaching your child the alphabet? Check out this beautiful alphabet book--ABC Pop-Up by Courtney Watson McCarthy. The pages have pop-up images that go alphabetically. The letter is embossed on the image somewhere and some pages have more than one letter like C and D have a cat and dog chasing each other or this page is for N and O.

It is a fun way to talk about the alphabet and some of the pages are just so beautiful!

Our next book is great about teaching emotions. Meet Happy Bear is by Carles Ballesteros. This book has the bear's face change as you turn the page.

I love that the mouse gives ideas to help cheer up bear with things like doing something silly, singing a song and more. They are things kids can do on their own. It also helps kids recognize facial expressions for the emotions.

Our next book is a seek and find book with flaps and more. It is All Aboard! Let's Ride a Train by Nichole Mara and illustrated by Andrew Kolb. The boy loses his hat on the train and travels through the whole train looking for it. Can you find it?

The pages fold out to see the whole train and then flaps lift up to show the inside of the car. Each train car gives the reader things to find in the picture. The other side also shows the views from the train with things to count and look for.

Speaking of trains, come learn all about eight great trains in Trains by Ian Graham and illustrated by Stephen Biesty. Do you know about the trains? This book covers Patentee steam train, American Type steam train, Pacific steam locomotive, EMD E-units (diesel train), SNCF CC 6500 electric train, SD40-2 diesel, TGV Euroduplex, and Shanghai Maglev.

The book gives a bit about the history of the trains and then shows a picture of a specific train in that type. The picture has all sorts of flaps to explain the parts of the train and how it works in full details. This book has it all and is perfect for the train loving child or adult!
